Top Babes

I think I should point out, that a lot of this site I've tried to be honest and authentic. So I should say that I'm probably 'on the spectrum.' Autistic or Aspergers or something. I'm totally fine in conversation, and all that. However, I clearly think differently from most people, as has been pointed out to me. Most people probably see a site like TVChix.com as an opportunity to meet TVs or arrange dates etc. While I do that. I also see it as a site with lots of data. Data that can be manipulated and used. So some of the posts on here will follow that line.

One aspect of the site is something called 'Top Babes', pretty self-explanatory. Anyone on the site can enact in the settings the ability for people to vote on your photos, 1-10. Whichever photo has the most votes on your profile goes forward against your competitors. Your main pic is the one you have to focus on, as the cheapskates that don't subscribe can't vote on any other pics.

I had tried it before, a bit of vanity I suppose, latent narcissism, maybe! I think my grand total was about 51, some clown always gives you a 1, it's soooo hilarious! Roll on a few years, and I was starting to know lots of people on the site. I had also started venturing out to clubs and posted a well-received item on the forums. As such, I noticed I was getting lots of hits on my profile. So I thought, now or never, and switched on the photo voting. After a couple of days, I noticed I was at around 400 or so points. Blimey! I was getting lots of messages and all sorts, clearly, I had somehow become super popular based on a few events. After a fortnight I was into the thousands, and therefore sniffing around the bottom of the table. There are 40 places, down 5 up 2, pop pickers. Sorry, Alan 'Fluff' Freeman* moment.

It should be noted, that the whole thing is so utterly pointless. The site contains a poll of what people like most on the site, as you can see, the Top Babes/Hot Ratings bit is by far the least interesting part of the site according to over 36000 voters.

What had started out as a bit of fun, sort of became more of a challenge. And I am pretty damn competitive. Just ask anyone I've been 10-pin bowling with or has dared to overtake me cycling laps of Richmond Park. So I was keen to see how high I could go. From switching on the voting, you have to wait 30 days, 30 long days, until you appear on the chart. So I worked out I needed to get lots of profile hits, and hope people would vote on me. So I started spending longer than usual in the chat room. I would also put some inane comments in the main chat room window, as that seems to generate lots of responses. I also added a few comments in the forum section.

Another week had passed, and It was 8 days to go until I debuted, I was at 1630 votes. Oh my lord, I was a few off the Top 10. However, I noticed that my profile hits were drying up. Everyone had seen or visited me lately, so I was old hat. Yeah, seen her, skip, next. So I started to unblock all the admirers I'd blocked, they were either too unattractive or just lived outside the South East of the UK.

6 days to go until I debuted, 1815 points! I would crack the top 10 at this rate. A couple of users were in on what I was up to, and were quick to laugh at my excitement at something so utterly meaningless. Nevertheless, I unblocked more admirers in the chatroom, and made comments in the main window. I logged on in the chatroom in the morning, lunch and if I had a moment, in the evening. Half an hour each time seems to do it.

4 days to go, and I was now at 2042 votes, based on the current chart, I would be 7th. The thing is, I fully knew I wouldn't crack the very top, that was never going to happen. It takes way more time and commitment than I could muster for that. The current Tgirl at the top has 4400 votes, and whenever I go into the chatroom, there she is. I was tipped off that if I changed my name to 0phelia, with a 0, I would appear at the top of the chatroom list of people, thus gaining more attention. However, I thought that a little too drastic. Although I had unblocked a load of people I had blocked, just for votes! The current top Tgirl has a '1' in her name. That's commitment!

1 day to go, and I was 2171. Still 7th. Oh well. Not bad. However, I still had 24hrs left, so back into the chatroom, unblocking people, silly comments, and a few comments in the forums. My god I'd become a tragic monster! For Admirers who quickly displayed no conversational skills I would usually give short shrift, I seductively suggested they rate my pics. I was surely hours away from a trial at The Hague.

Debut day. I woke up at the usual 7.30ish and logged on. And there I was, 4th! I'd picked up 150 votes on the last day, and had 2321 votes, enough to get me to 4th. Not bad for a picture taken at a makeover 2 years ago. I should have let Jodie know, although I'm sure her work has appeared many times. Controversial, but I do think a makeover isn't as good as doing one's own makeup. Somehow, voting on a TV for the efforts, skill and artistry they've done themselves seems more worthwhile. A picture on my profile that was my own work received...305 votes :( Admittedly, only Paid accounts can vote on pics other than the main one. So, erm, that's my excuse!

I thought I'd see how many users had gone to my profile, based on my newfound status as a Top Babe. I had 2 views for most of the day, well below normal! I didn't see an increase in users favouriting me either. It almost seemed, like, no one gave a crap! And truth be told, they don't.

The following day I was planning to switch off the voting. However, I noticed my points were still increasing! 2438 points! If I could just get 300 more points, I'd be top 3. Just 300. And so, back into the chatroom, commenting on Russell Brand posts in the forums. I have never liked the guy. I was also told other tactics to raise votes, commenting on people's profiles, and adding loads of people as favourites, all in the hope they'll check out your profile and vote. vote vote VOTE! However, I just didn't have the time for the desire for that level of craziness. I'm happy with my level!

Although...by day 5, i was just 6 votes from 3rd place, just half a dozen of those votes!

And then, there it was Day 6, I was into 3rd, quite comfortably as it turned out. Around 200 votes in a day, and bear in mind, I was losing votes every day based on the 30 day rule. I was a Top 3 Babe, a bronze medallist, the Pete Conrad of TV Chix! He was the third man on the moon, obvs!

Day 9 proved to be my highest-scoring day, by now I’d long given up chasing votes, so was surprised. I’d hit 3023votes.

By day 22 I’d drifted down to 6th. I didn’t want to face the ignominy of slowly drifting down the table, so I turned off the voting. I was out, free, FREE I tell you!

As mentioned above, and as I found from a TVchix poll, the Top Babes feature is actually the least popular section of the site, and by some margin! While being popular is something we all aspire too (no, even you!), there are limits, and chasing too much popularity can lead to depression or in my case, desperation! The voting is now switched off, so if i'm in the chatroom or posting on forums, it's not for any other motive. I've had my 15nanoseconds of fame, and it was very empty, lol!

I should point out that I know I'm not the prettiest vase on the shelf, and that other girls may grab the top spots simply by being amazingly beautiful. I don't wish to judge. I've merely reflected my experiences and knowledge gained.

*Fluff Freeman used to do the Top 40 music chart run down on the BBC Radio. Long before my time!
